For many years I contemplated building an AC Cobra replica, but I couldn't get past the idea of a fiberglass knock-off. I finally made up my mind that if I couldn't actually have the real thing (at today's prices who can? ... unless you're Jay Leno) I would build a Shelby GT350 clone. The car you see here is my dream come true. Why would anyone sell a car like this after lusting after it for so long and going through all of the cost and expense of building it? The truth is that I have a lot of car dreams and only one lifetime to experience them all. Every couple of weeks, I am contacted by someone who wants to know if this Mustang is for sale. I have no plans to sell her, but if the right person comes along and you catch me on the right day you never know. Good Mustang fastbacks are some of the fastest appreciating cars on the planet and are getting very hard to find in this condition. This car was in storage for many years which protected it from the majority Mustang rust problems. This car was completely disassembled down to the last nut an bolt, media blasted and reassembled with all new or reconditioned parts. The parts and craftsmanship used to create this car were the best available. The paint and bodywork were done by Central Florida Customs in Orlando Florida and the quality is exceptional. I chose to duplicate the 1965 GT350 because of the raw nature of these cars. Shelby did not compromise in 1965 and as a consequence the first GT350s were pure race cars for the street. Also, I didn't want to cut the roof panels to install the clear 1966 Shelby vent windows. This is a very hard modification to reverse and I respected the car enough to leave that to another owner if desired. For the same reason, I also decided not to cut holes for the over-ride traction bars. The 1965 GT350 Shelby modifications on this car cost many thousands of dollars and have been done correctly. To be totally correct, the car should be Wimbledon White with Guardsman Blue stripes. This color combination is so common in clones that I made the decision to go with Black. I am very happy with the result and the finished car is stunning and very period 60s. Everything in this car has either been replaced or rebuilt. In one word, she is as perfect as you can get and still drive her on the street. This car draws a crowd everywhere it goes and won the 2007 & 2008 Fantasy of Flight People's Choice Award two years in a row. I don't need to tell you what a real 1965 Shelby is worth these days. If you are financially successful and are looking for a high quality car with all the look and feel of a 1965 Shelby GT350 at a fraction of the cost, this could be a good car for you.
