1965 Mustang Fastback Project

July 5, 2005 - Just back from the body man ..... Act One!

This project is going to be done differently than all my others.  Before, I would start working on the mechanicals and leave the body work for last.  What I always wound up with was a car with a great engine/transmission but a piece of crap for a body.  I was always disappointed with the results as the body work was something that I didn't know how to handle.  This time, I searched around for a good body man that would work with me and after a bunch of driving I found Sean at Central Florida Customs in Orlando.  He does great work and would let me pay him as he went along.  He blasted off all the old paint and gunk top and bottom and in the process uncovered a bunch of problems.  Welded in a new NPD radiator support, part of the front panel and frame rail where the battery acid had dripped, lower patch panels in all corners and a complete new tail light panel.  After smoothing out the dents, he painted the entire body shell top and bottom with black epoxy primer.  Now I have something to work with!

Here's the body shell fresh from Central Florida Customs.  No dirt!!

Here's the new tail light panel. I've already started putting in the 9" rear in these pictures.

Here's the new radiator support.  The welding is so good that you can't tell where the new frame rail was replaced.
